GenderGP is delighted to report that Drs Mike and Helen Webberley have been invited to present on three separate subject areas at the forthcoming biannual WPATH (World Professional Association for Transgender Health) symposium in Buenos Aires, which runs from 2nd November until the 6th 2018.
The symposium entitled: Achieving Excellence in Transgender Healthcare Across the Lifespan: From Evidence to Clinical Practice brings together experts from around the world and GenderGP is one of only a handful of UK healthcare providers presenting at the event.
GenderGP’s three presentations will focus on:
- Long delays in accessing specialist gender services in the UK and the resulting high incidence of self medication by patients with gender affirming hormones
- The potential for digital services to revolutionise healthcare provision for gender diverse patients in the UK
- The negative impact which the lack of consistency in the UK’s approach to fertility preservation is having on transgender patients
WPATH promotes high standards of care for gender diverse individuals based on the best available science and expert professional consensus. Its overall goal is to provide clinical guidance for health professionals to assist patients with safe and effective pathways to achieving lasting personal comfort in order to maximise their overall health, psychological wellbeing and self fulfilment.
Being recognised by this international body is hugely significant for GenderGP and we wish Mike and Helen the best of luck! With some of the leading minds in transgender care in attendance, it is sure to be an exciting and informative event. We look forward to giving you an update in next month’s newsletter.
