We are encouraged to see that the Dr Hilary Cass has provided an interim update on behalf of the Independent Review of Gender Identity Services for Children and Young People.

In her statement, Dr Cass highlights the pressing need for immediate support for children and young people suffering gender dysphoria and currently needing assessment and treatment – many of whom she rightly indicates “have already been waiting for an extended period for an appointment”.

The most pressing issue is how we augment the immediate support for children and young people currently needing assessment and treatment, some of whom have already been waiting for an extended period for an appointment. I will therefore also make some suggestions about interim arrangements and ways in which the review team could help to support and strengthen these.

– Dr Hilary Cass

We agree entirely with her statement that a better, safer, and more timely model is urgently needed for our young people.

As a world leading provider of healthcare to trans and non-binary individuals, GenderGP welcomes Dr Cass’ transparent and timely intervention, and we will continue offer our knowledge and experience to the Review Panel so that together, we can move towards a more successful model of care centering on the needs of the individual.
