Lori brings to Trans communities over 9 years' of dedicatedexperience as a Senior Speech and Language Therapist and Head of Therapy. She works extensively with Trans clients has developed an approach to therapy that is eclectic; She aims to facilitate progress by establishing, along with the client, their individual wishes and goals for their voice.
Lori has developed an empathetic approach to supporting people with emotional and psychological strain due to emotional, psychological and vocal distress, such as is experienced by professional voice users and people with gender dysphoria.
As part of her approach, she helps clients with their vocal hygiene and voice anatomy, including breathing and breath support and its role in voicing. She creates a therapy plan by identifying and targeting the voice areas where change would make the greatest amount of impact and move the client most efficiently toward their goals.
No two therapy plans are the same, as consideration must be made of the client’s natural ability, cultural influences, emotional and psychological well-being, and cognitive effects. She explains the voice therapy plan to the client and together they agree on an approach to therapy. As she explores the voice with her client, she may modify the therapy plan to make forward progress easier for the client - an approach she finds works well, because of the many “ah-ha” moments experienced by her clients along the way to creating their desired voice.
