After completing an undergraduate degree in Psychology and English Literature in 2003, Nicola qualified as a person-centred counsellor in 2015 and has worked as a volunteer counsellor with various organisations since 2014. In addition to this she has had further counselling training in the areas of bereavement and sexual abuse and is a qualified Psychological Well-being Practitioner. Nicola has worked in private practice for 2 years and has 7 years counselling experience.
Although Nicola trained as a play therapist and has worked as a counsellor with children and teenagers, she currently works mostly with adults from diverse backgrounds and with a range of presenting issues.
Nicola is very passionate about attending to diversity issues in her work where appropriate, as she understands that our various social positions can affect our experiences and viewpoints, as well as have implications for our healing processes.
Nicola believes deeply in person-centred theory, listening without judgment, and valuing the personal experiencing of clients in order to promote therapeutic change, and understands that the therapeutic relationship is the heart of any therapeutic experience. She works as a counsellor because she loves to support clients in achieving their personal therapy goals and is honoured to be part of their journey every time. Nicola has special interests in work place issues and career counselling, ASD, Black and Mixed race issues as well as identity issues in general. She always consider intersectionality in her work.
