Owen works from a gender affirmative approach using different models of psychotherapy, rather than assuming a “one-size-fits-all”. He supports a person to come to a comfortable, consensual and self-accepting place with their gender identity. He sees gender as diverse and whatever stage you are at on your journey, you are "trans enough".
“I provide full acceptance of who you are, regardless of how you identify. I see both of us working together as unique individuals. I've seen how life can throw many different challenges which can cause us to question our sense of self. Yet I also believe that such challenges can offer us opportunities to develop and grow - perhaps even flourish!”
Owen has an active interest in the areas of gender, sexuality, and relationship diversity (GSRD) and how presenting issues (e.g. stigma, internalised shame, oppression, discrimination) can impact on our mental health and psychological well-being. Together with you, Owen will explore how to navigate your world in ways that are safe enough, consensual and comfortable for you.
He also works with a broad range of presenting issues, such as: anxiety, depression, stress, dealing with an illness or diagnosis, bereavement, loneliness, bullying, confidence & self-esteem, and with relationship or work-related issues.
Owen has also many years of experience as a social worker in an acute hospital environment and within sexual health. He provides support to individuals who are treated or diagnosed with STIs, HIV, chems addiction and chemsex, safer sex and individuals taking PEP or PREP. He works with adults of diverse sexualities, genders and different relationships and lifestyles and is currently undertaking further specialist postgrad study within this field.
Owen provides general therapy and counselling in addition to his specialist area of gender, sexuality and relationship diversity.
