Visibility at last for trans youth
What a month for visibility for trans youth! As Dr Webberley’s trial continues to shine a light on the inadequate care provision for young trans people on the NHS, the conversation around how things can – and must – be improved is finally front and centre. We are optimistic that the successful outcome of the Bell V Tavi appeal is a sign of things to come. Read our latest newsletter to find out more.

Happy Pride!
The shiniest, sparkliest, most glamorous time of the year is upon us and at GenderGP we’ve been celebrating. This year we’re especially proud of the hard work being done campaigning for advocacy and access to healthcare – we know it’s been tough but we’re seeing some significant progress. This Pride that’s what we’ve been celebrating and we hope you will join us.

Celebrating the trans community #TDOV2021
Seeing trans people in our everyday lives is important, both for helping those who don’t understand to accept that our world is beautiful and diverse, and to empower those who may be scared to come out.
This Transgender Day of Visibility we celebrate all trans people for their courage and we give a special thank you to those who are in the public eye, who serve as an inspiration to us all.
Happy TDoV

Light at the end of the lockdown tunnel
Though there may be light at the end of the lockdown tunnel, any sense of life as we know it getting back to normal still feels a long way off. So this month’s newsletter we’re focusing on the positive, good news stories and uplifting content.

What Now for Trans Youth?
It’s easy to feel defeated after the ruling earlier this month made access to care for trans youth even more of a challenge, but together we will continue to get young trans people the care they need. Real change is hard won and real change is precisely what we are fighting for.
We must not accept a return to the sub-standard levels of care that were in place before the ruling, we want to see policies……..

You can read all about it in your monthly newsletter.

It’s not all bad news!
Since working with the trans community GenderGP has faced many challenges and this month was no different with a targeted attack on our partner chemist. How did we respond? We did what we always do, we tackled the issue head on and we pulled out all the stops to find a solution. Why? Because we have just one priority: to make life easier for those we support.

Trans Sex Education Special
Earlier this month we saw the World Congress of Sexual Health issue a declaration to mark World Sexual Health Day (04.09.20). The document highlighted, among other things, the importance of equality, non-discrimination, autonomy and bodily integrity when it comes to a healthy sexual experience. To show our commitment to this excellent cause we are dedicating this month’s newsletter to the subject of sex; GenderGP style.

Trans Youth Special
This month, with back to school on the horizon, our thoughts turn to our younger community members and those who support them. We are sending love and positive vibes to all of those who are preparing for re-entry into whatever form of education they may be gearing up for, especially to those who will be presenting as their true selves for the first time in a new school or college.
Keep your chin up, we’re rooting for you.

GenderGP News Roundup
Summer is in full swing and we have had a flurry of activity at GenderGP HQ.
We hope you are enjoying our new and improved Help Centre. We have had some really lovely feedback which suggests that – after some initial teething problems – the improvements have really made a difference ☺️.
If you have time, don’t forget to share any positive reviews with the wider community via channels such as Trustpilot and Google Reviews – this will help more people to find us and ensure they get the help they need!

Happy Pride Month!
As Pride month draws to a close, we wanted to take the opportunity to wave our collective virtual flags for the trans community. Many organisations held their events over the weekend (27th and 28th June) including the first ever Global Pride 2020, a 24 hour live event which was streamed online. We hope you were able to join in the celebrations.
Wherever you are and whatever you did to celebrate, we want to let you know that we are incredibly proud to be part of this fantastic community.
Share your Pride 2020 pics and we will include them in next month’s newsletter.

Welcome to our new look May newsletter!
As you will be aware, at the end of April we trialled a new triage system as part of our newly refreshed, redesigned and reinvigorated GenderGP Appraisal Pathway. We are delighted to report that it has been a huge success and many of the challenges that we know were causing frustration, are well on the way to being resolved.
In a bid to capitalise on this success we have streamlined our information gathering and sharing via the new GenderGP Appraisal Pathway section of the website.

It feels like it’s been a long soggy autumn and we all need a pick me up. So we are marking this year’s countdown to Christmas with an extra special gift to you – our GenderGP advent calendar. We have invited some familiar faces, plus a few friends, to share a photo and a festive wish with our community. These will be displayed on our social media channels to brighten up your December days. You can find us @GenderGP on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

November 2019
Today, on Transgender Day of Remembrance 2019, we send our love out to the trans community.
To mark the occasion we have recorded a special edition of the GenderGP Podcast in which Marianne is joined by Victoria Oldman, GenderGP’s Appraisal Pathway Lead.
The pair discuss what TDOR means to them and the importance of putting yourself first, when times get tough.

August 2019
The extreme heat – and torrential rain – this month has led to many a discussion on the subject of “body armour” here at GenderGP and the lengths to which members of the trans community have to go to just to feel comfortable stepping outside their front door.
Wigs, binders, packers, layers – of clothes and makeup – all of which are uncomfortable at the best of times. Throw in a heatwave and it can become unbearable.

June 2019
Welcome to June’s newsletter and the official unveiling of our brand new logo! We have been working hard behind the scenes over the last few months to make sure our look and feel reflects the new and improved International GenderGP. You may also have noticed that the website has had a face lift – our aim is to make this resource as useful and informative as possible. It’s been a busy few weeks, as you can probably imagine, but we’re as positive and committed as ever here at GenderGP. News of Dr Mike’s interim suspension caused some concern among members of our community but please rest assured that you are in safe hands. We guessed this might be coming so we took necessary steps to secure your continuity of care. You can read all about it here. We are all very excited about the next chapter.
April 2019
Welcome to our April newsletter. We’ve had an exciting month and an unprecedented opportunity to learn about best practise coming out of the USA from some of the leading voices in gender affirmative care. We have included all the details below – just in case you missed it the first time around! But first…
March 2019
This transgender day of visibility (March 31st), GenderGP is absolutely delighted to announce that we will be hosting a live Q&A with some of the leading experts in the field of transgender youth care. Dr Helen Webberley will be joined by the experts behind Trans Youth Care Dr Johanna Olson-Kennedy, Aydin Olson-Kennedy and ‘live from California’, Darlene Tando.
February 2019
To that end, we want to introduce you to ‘GenderGP Voices’ so you can hear from those people keen to share their story as part of a brand new podcast series we are launching. ‘Voices’ is an opportunity for you to share your perspective on what it means to be gender variant. We know that only those whose gender identity differs from the one they were assigned at birth truly know what it is like to navigate a world which tends to see gender in black and white. By telling your real life stories we will show the world that every day people come in every colour of the rainbow and that trans people are just like anyone else! If you would like to get involved visit our Help Centre.

Happy New Year!
A belated Happy New Year to the GenderGP community. We hope 2019 has started off positively and that you are all looking forward to an exciting year to come.
This month’s newsletter is an international edition as we are writing it from Los Angeles where Drs Mike and Helen Webberley (plus a couple of strategic stragglers) have travelled to attend the two day Trans Youth Care conference. The conference is being run by Dr Johanna Olson Kennedy, the Medical Director of The Center for Transyouth Health and Development at Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles, and her team of experts.
